Dr. Byrd is a public health champion, author, trainer, and mentor. She received a BS in Biology from Howard University before completing her MD-MPH at Harvard Medical School and the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health (HSPH). She is currently an academic hospitalist practicing in Dallas, Texas.

Dr. Kia Byrd MD shares her journey in creating the Master The Match course, designed to guide medical students to residency match success. Witness the passion and expertise behind the program that's empowering the next generation of physicians.
Dr. Byrd has a passion for mentorship, health policy, serving marginalized communities, and everything in between. In 2020, she authored her first book, Master the Match!: 5 Personal Statement Writing Tips for the Residency Application. She has mentored and advised countless medical students, and developed the Master the Match brand into a platform for counseling and coaching final-year medical students through the residency application process.
She is also a health advocate and previously worked in health policy for former Boston City Councilor and Current Congresswoman for MA-7, Ayanna Pressley. During that time, she conducted policy research with the Boston City Council Committee on Healthy Women, Families and Communities aimed at examining issues related to health and wellness of women of color.
During her time at Harvard, she served as Co-Chair for the Women of Color in Medicine and Dentistry organization. As a resident at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, she served as a contributor for the UTSW Journal Watch publication and became known for work in health equity.
